The Coffee Letters
Short comedic tales about off-kilter people who face the absurdities of everyday life with quiet delusion, earnest whimsy and a touch of sass.
The Flitzani
An orphan, raised in rural Greece by three spinster aunts, Stathis grows up believing he has the gift of the flitzani: reading people’s fortunes in the dregs of a coffee cup. Whether he actually can with any degree of accuracy is open to debate.
A few months after starting a new life in New York, Stathis is flat broke and working for meals and a spot on his cousin’s filthy floor.
So, when the chance to make a quick buck reading the flitzani comes his way, he grabs it. But as he soon discovers, people claim to want to know the future but don’t really want to hear what life has in store …and it’s almost always the messenger that gets blamed.
